When I put an offer up for knitting or crocheting services, I usually get about 10 hits, so when this went a lot further- I was very excited! But- I needed to come up with a plan in order to get everyone a hat who needs one.
So, here’s the plan: For the next two months, I will be making hats to order for the tax day protests. Those who expressed interest on Facebook will have priority. I have a handful of friends from our local yarn shop (Ben and Flo’s in Mount Vernon, IA) who have volunteered to help, but I will be handling the bulk of the orders as well as connecting them with knitters in our circle if I get overwhelmed/too many at once. Preferably, I will schedule 5 a week. One for each working day.
Hats will be made to order on a first come, first served basis, so I ask your patience as we make our way through these. I have set prices below that will cover supplies and a small amount for the time spent on hats. You will also be charged for shipping. I’m a quick knitter, and it takes me between 2.5 and 5 hours per hat, depending on how complex the hat is I’m working on. Typically, we “make” about $2-$5 per hour, so this is largely done on a volunteer or “by the piece” basis. Also, I have decided to donate %10 of each sale to the ACLU.
Once you’ve purchased your hat, I will email you an approximate schedule, and I’ll let you know when your hat is on needle.
How do you order? Please send me an email (wrenandstarling@gmail.com) with hat style selected, any special requests (example: special fibers apart from the pictured choices, like cotton), your mailing address, and your corresponding PayPal ID so I can match your payment with your order. Use the donate button below to pay the amount that corresponds with your hat choice and please add $3.00 for shipping. Once that is done, I’ll give you an approximate date for your hat to be started and shipped.
Sound good? Here are the choices-
Classic, $25
Classic/resist, $30
Fuzzy, $20
Posh (cabled band), $30
Hats (with the exception of the Fuzzy) are made with Sugar Bush super wash merino. If you need a different fiber (acrylic or cotton), let me know, and we can talk about pricing for those. For those of you coming here from Facebook, I have a separate pricing guide, so contact me for that.
